MAKE A LITTLE TIME TO EXPLORE

Around the valley

A canyon walk. An evening at the theatre.
A few good reasons to stay a little longer.

Leave some room in your plans for Yakima and the surrounding valley. Here are four starting points, with links to the people who know each place best.

OUT IN THE OPEN

Walk Cowiche Canyon

The main canyon trail follows a former railroad corridor beside Cowiche Creek, with rock formations and creek crossings along the way. It offers a different pace from a day in town.

The canyon route is relatively level, while the upland trails are steeper. Surfaces and conditions vary, so choose a route that suits your group and check the conservancy’s updates before heading out.

ROOM TO WANDER

Spend time on the Greenway

The Yakima Greenway links paths, parks, playgrounds and river access. Pick a stretch for a walk or a bike ride, or make a park your destination for an unhurried afternoon.

Use the Greenway’s visitor information to choose a starting point and see which facilities suit your plans.

A TASTE OF THE VALLEY

Plan a wine-country outing

Yakima Valley wine country stretches across several tasting areas. Choose a small cluster of wineries instead of trying to fit the whole valley into one day.

The official visitor guide is a useful starting point for finding wineries and planning a route. Confirm hours and any reservation requirements directly with each venue, and arrange transportation before your tasting day.

AN EVENING DOWNTOWN

See what’s on at the Capitol

Downtown Yakima’s Capitol Theatre hosts live performances in a historic setting. Check the current program before your trip; a show can be a lovely reason to leave an evening open.

For another connection to the area’s arts, read the story of Rosedell and the Larson family, including the estate’s link to the Larson Gallery.

A PLACE TO COME BACK TO

Find your valley stay

Choose a private apartment in Rosedell’s Carriage House in Yakima, or our separate craftsman bungalow in Selah. Units A and B are in the Carriage House; the mansion itself is not part of your reservation.
